Publication in GUSTS, the Canadian journal of contemporary Tanka

Tanka is a traditional form of Japanese poetry which predates haiku.  It is written in 5 verses instead of three, and I had the honour of meeting Kozue Uzawa from GUSTS while in Vancouver in the spring of 2019 at the Haiku Canada Sea-to-Sky conference.

I wrote this tanka after reading Naomi Beth Wakan's trilogy of books on haiku and tanka at a late spring poetry retreat in Canmore.

The tanka is new, but the experience dates back to the moment I realized there was no love left in my marriage, over 12 years ago.
