Jim Jackson accompanies Josephine LoRe
as she reads her quarantine-inspired poem,
La Quarantaine ... Forty Days
Jim Jackson, writer and musician, and Josephine LoRe, poet and photographer, first collaborated for the launch of Jim's first cd. Inspired by the lyrics and music of The Flypaper Motel, Josephine wrote and performed three original poems in 2018.
Their second collaboration came from a call for submissions by Miranda Krogstad for poetry that would be put to music and interpreted live in dance in Words That Move Me in 2019. Jim composed music to three of Josephine's poems, which were danced by Kunji Mark Ikeda.
The third collaboration came about when Jim turned to Josephine, after the success of the performance at Words That Move Me and asked, "Do you have enough for an album?" That encouraged the birth of The Cowichan Series, a collection of poems written in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island in 2018, published concurrently with the release of the Cowichan Series cd, all original musical pieces created by Jim Jackson, with Josephine LoRe speaking her poetry.
With the onslaught of covid, Josephine started virtually attending Jim's online reading series Creatives in Quarantine Virtual Open Mic, at which she read this poem. To which Jim asked, "Should we do another series, this one about food?"
The magic continues ...
