Haiku for the Seasons

I taught a haiku workshop at Calgary's Alexandra Writers' Centre Society ... my first foray into the Zoom teaching world not long after the start of covid.

Haiku through the Seasons

Haiku is traditionally inspired by nature and has an element that ties in to the season. Short (17 syllables max, only 3 lines) but powerful, haiku has the ability to evoke so much in so little words.

Consider for example this haiku by Chiyo-ni, one of Japan's first renowned female haikuists:

butterfly—

what dream

is making your wings flutter?
